Jeffrey Bowen, 30, was arrested by Philadelphia police and charged Monday with murder, robbery, abuse of a corpse and other related offenses in the death of Kelly Hepfl, 39, on March 24.
Hepfl's body was found buried in a shallow grave along Frankford Avenue.
According to the medical examiner's office, the cause of death was homicide from multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and chest.
Police discovered Hepft's body after a man alerted them to the shallow grave. Upon arriving at the yard, officers saw a foot sticking out of the ground in the rear yard of a home on the 4700 block of Frankford Avenue in Frankford. That's where investigators discovered Hepft's body wrapped in plastic bags.
According to NBC Philadelphia, neighbors said Bowen was Hepfl's boyfriend.
After the discovery was made, police questioned a man who proceeded to flee and had to be Tased and subdued by officers. He was subsequently arrested. A witness told 6ABC that the man had been looking for a shovel in the days leading up to the incident.
Police have not confirmed whether Bowen is the same man who was subdued and arrested the day of the discovery.
