Driver rescued nine hours after crash down embankment in Lower Merion

Emergency crews in Lower Merion rescued a driver who was trapped in his vehicle for nine hours after plunging down a 6- to 8-foot embankment and into a creek early Tuesday.

According to CBSPhilly, calls came in about the incident at around 4:25 a.m. Tuesday at Mill Creek Road and Grays Lane in Lower Merion. Authorities say they believe the unidentified male driver crashed down the embankment Monday evening and became trapped in his vehicle, which was submerged in a foot of water.

A Lower Merion officer reportedly spotted the vehicle in the creek hours later and called for aid.

CBSPhilly reports the man was freed early Tuesday, at which time he was both conscious and alert. There are no updates on his current condition.
