An empty lot on South Broad Street could eventually be the site of the tallest modular building in the world – if it can find the right buyer.
As Philadelphia Magazine reports, 740-48 South Broad Street is for sale for $20 million, a price that includes zoning approvals for a 20-story high-rise made of 120 luxury condo units worth $1 million each and building plans designed by the Coscia Moos architecture firm.
Owner Anthony Beverley said he would be interested in either selling the property or creating a joint venture.
Current plans for the building would make it modular, meaning that it is created from containers that are built off-site and stacked into place. If the next owner chooses to keep those plans, it would be the tallest modular building in the world – assuming that the competing B2 BKLN modular high-rise in Brooklyn doesn't get built first.
Previous plans for what to do with the lot included building eight single-family town homes, but Beverley said that that idea has been scrapped.
