Temple University Monday announced classes will be cancelled Friday, Sept. 25, in anticipation of Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia. Still unclear is whether the university will be closed the following Monday.
With the World Meeting of Families 2015 quickly approaching, the city of Philadelphia is still working out the logistical details that will help make Pope Francis' visit on September 26-27 go as smoothly as possible for everyone involved and affected.
According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, several area universities have announced a class cancellations and scheduling adjustments Mayor Michael Nutter announced the "traffic box" that will surround Center City and create issues for those commuting to work and school.
Below are the schedule changes that have been announced by local universities.
University of Pennsylvania
All classes and university-sponsored events have been canceled for Friday, September 25. Designated essential personnel must still report to work.
Drexel University
From 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 through Sunday, September 27, all classes at the University City, Center City and Queen Lane campuses are either cancelled or rescheduled. More information is available here.
Villanova University
An adjusted schedule will be put in place for Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. The school has asked that faculty who plan to meet on campus on these days either reschedule or meet online using Adobe Connect or Blackboard.
St. Joseph's University
Evening classes are canceled on Friday, September 25. All classes and activities are cancelled for Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27.
Community College of Philadelphia
All classes are canceled for Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, due to the school's proximity to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, where Pope Francis will make an appearance.
La Salle University
All classes and activities are canceled for Saturday, September 26. Friday and Monday classes will remain as scheduled, at this time.
Thomas Jefferson University
All on-campus classes and events are canceled from Friday, September 25 until Monday, September 28 at noon.
Rutgers University-Camden
Classes at the Rutgers University-Camden campus are canceled from 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 to 12:20 p.m. on Monday, September 28. Administrative offices will remain open.
