A local community college aiming to provide students with on-campus housing is exploring sites to build dorms, Philadelphia Business Journal reports.
Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), working with Philadelphia real estate company Cross Properties, is looking to build what would likely be a 200-bed dorm at its campus in Pottstown.
"At this time, it is still in the exploration phase in terms of feasibility and logistics," spokeswoman Alana J. Mauger told Philadelphia Business Journal. “A site has not been proposed or identified."
MCCC proposed on-campus housing earlier this year after research by the school found that students wanted the option.
The community college decided to focus on its west campus at 101 College Drive since its location is within a downtown community that provides some already established amenities such as restaurants and parks.
MCCC has another campus in Blue Bell.
Two of Penn State University’s local campuses — Brandywine and Abington— are also exploring constructing residence halls as a way to compete for students.
