"Bohemian Rhapsody" took home two of the major awards during Sunday night's 76th Annual Golden Globes awards hosted by funnyman Andy Samberg and actress Sandra Oh, who was an award winner, as well, for her role in the television thriller "Killing Eve."
The film about Freddie Mercury and Queen, the legendary rock band, took best dramatic movie and star Rami Malek won best performance by an actor in a motion picture, drama.
Here's how the night went as the show, known for its looser format compared to the Oscars, unfolded. Expect some of the names and surprise winners (hello Glenn Close!) to make repeat appearances at the Oscars.
Update [6:58 p.m.]: All the stars are looking flawless tonight as they walk down the red carpet. Lady Gaga has arrived in a stunning Valentino blue gown with matching pastel blue hair. Regina King is slaying tonight in a pink Alberta Ferretti gown. Though the real news tonight: Amy Sherman-Palladino has arrived hatless? Because I guess hell has frozen over?
Update [8:00 p.m.]: The Golden Globes are officially underway.
Update [8:14 p.m.]: After a hilarious opener by Samberg and Oh, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga present the first award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Michael Douglas has won the first Golden Globes of the evening for "The Kominsky Method."
Update [8:29 p.m.]: "Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse" has won Best Motion Picture, Animated. "The Americans" have won Best Television Series, Drama.
Update [8:45 p.m.]: Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie goes to British actor Ben Whishaw for "A Very English Scandal" while Patricia Arquette, who was a bit colorful with her speech, wins for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for "Escape at Dannemora."
Update [9:00 p.m.]: Icon Carol Burnett receives the inaugural Carol Burnett Award for a lifetime achievement in television. Burnett ended the speech with the infamous line, "I'm so glad we had this time together."
Update [9:17 p.m.]: "Shallow" from "A Star is Born" won for Best Original Song. Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt have accepted the award. Regina King wins Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for "If Beale Street Could Talk." In a #TimesUp moment, King vows to make sure the staff on her projects are at least 50 percent women.
Update [9:35 p.m.]: Golden Globes host Sandra Oh wins Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama for "Killing Eve." She is the first Asian actress to win a Golden Globe for lead actress in a drama in 38 years. "Green Book" has received two awards: Mahershala Ali wins Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture, while the movie takes home Best Screenplay.
Update [9:57 p.m.]: Christian Bale wins Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for his performance in "Vice." Darren Criss wins Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story."
Update [10:10 p.m.]: Chris Pine presents Jeff Daniels with the Cecil B. DeMille award for his lifetime achievement in acting. "Nobody told me I had to follow Jeff Bridges," Harrison Ford jokes before presenting and handing off the Golden Globe for Best Director to Alfonso Cuarón for "Roma." The film won Best Foreign Film earlier this evening.
Update [10:45 p.m.]: Rachel Brosnahan wins Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." The Kominsky Method wins Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" wins Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Olivia Coleman wins Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for "The Favourite." Coleman jokes, "Thank you for the sandwiches," to the HFPA while relaying her thanks to the cast and crew, including her "b*tches" (a.k.a. Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.)
Update [11:05 p.m.]: "Green Book" wins Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. Glenn Close wins Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for "The Wife" and gives an emotional and moving speech for women's empowerment in her acceptance speech.
Update [11:18 p.m.]: . Rami Malek wins Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for "Bohemian Rhapsody." "Bohemian Rhapsody" wins Best Motion Picture, Drama.
