Some unorthodox interim coaches have led Miami professional sports teams in 2015. First, Marlins general manager Dan Jennings made the midseason move of stepping down into the dugout. Then on Monday, the Dolphins replaced Joe Philbin with 39-year-old tight ends coach Dan Campbell because of the latter’s “grit.”
Coming off a 71-91 season, Jennings won’t be the Marlins manager again in 2016. On Monday, the Phillies’ division foes interviewed none other than Larry Bowa for the position. From CSN Philly:
On Monday in New York City, Larry Bowa interviewed with Marlins officials for the team's manager job, a source told CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury.
Bowa on Sunday was offered a contract by the Phillies to return as bench coach in 2016, a job he's held since 2014. The Phillies did, however, grant the Marlins permission to speak with Bowa, sources told Salisbury.
Bowa will be 70 years old in December, so his hiring would come as a bit of a surprise considering he hasn’t managed since the Phillies fired him back in 2004. Bo Porter and Manny Acta have also reportedly been interviewed for the job.
