Late last year, Philly-area native Bradley Cooper had reportedly landed none other than Beyoncé Knowles to act beside him in his directorial debut, a remake of the romantic drama "A Star is Born." That ultimately fell through because, as Page Six learned in March, Knowles required too much money to move forward with the project.
The rumor mill is alive and well again after Cooper was spotted riding his Ducatti last Friday with Lady Gaga in Santa Monica.
According to Deadline's Bart & Fleming, the sighting could be a sign the two intend to work together on what would be the fourth remake of the film.
Reports first questioned if they were an item — both are happily spoken for — and so I’m going to throw out something that is a little speculative, but is being discussed right now behind the scenes. What better way to road test the potential pairing of Cooper and Gaga in the remake of "A Star Is Born" that will mark Cooper’s directorial debut at Warner Bros?
First produced in 1937, "A Star is Born" tells the story of a floundering actor who helps a rising actress achieve stardom as he plunges into self-destructive alcoholism. The film was famously remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, followed by a third production in 1976 featuring Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand.
Fleming suggests that the addition of Lady Gaga, who won a Golden Globe for her acting debut in "American Horror Story," could give Warner Bros. a failsafe duo to green light the film's estimated $40 million budget.
Cooper has been waiting for the right opportunity to direct after producing "American Sniper," which gave him full access to the techniques of director Clint Eastwood. Last September, in an interview with People, Cooper said, "At some point I gotta s--- or get off the pot. I'm 40 years old. Clint Eastwood directed 'Play Misty for Me' at 40."
At this point, it's just one of many rumors swirling around Cooper, who's also been linked — along with "Burnt" co-star Sienna Miller — to a Broadway remake of Phillip Barry's "The Philadelphia Story."
