December 18, 2015
Kwanzaa begins on Saturday, Dec. 26, this year and ends on Friday, Jan. 1. In celebration of the holiday, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will host two days of festive activities on Dec. 26 and Dec. 27.
Every Kwanzaa celebration may have its own traditions, but song, dance, African drums and storytelling are often a large part of the holiday observance for everyone. During the holiday week, families will also light seven candles and discuss the seven principles of African culture.
At the African American Museum celebration, there will be a candle-lighting ceremony, Kwanzaa-themed arts and crafts, African dancing and drumming, singing, storytelling and a Kwanzaa marketplace.
Saturday, Dec. 26, and Sunday, Dec. 27
