A stray kitten born while just five ounces beat long odds to grow into a healthy kitten ready for adoption.
The kitten, named "Lil Bitz," was brought to the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia after being found in Germantown with its mother and four neonatal siblings. Bitz was the runt of the litter, weighing well beneath the 12 to 15 ounces his siblings weighed.
By the time Bitz reached three weeks of age, he was about the size of a newborn kitten.
But after being taken in by ACCT Data Coordinator Darcy Oordt, who guided him through daily enemas, medication and subcutaneous fluids to heal some digestive issues, Bitz is healthy and ready for adoption.
The kitten will soon be housed at ACCT's adoption center at the PetSmart store at 2100 Chemical Road in Plymouth Meeting.
"It's tempting to keep him," Oordt said in a statement. "But I want him to have an extra special home. I know he will make someone very, very happy."
