Dress up and head out to a Kentucky Derby party in Philly

Mint juleps will be served

The 143rd Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 6, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

No need to travel to celebrate the sporting event that dates back to 1875, however. Philadelphia is hosting its own Derby parties, complete with mint juleps, bow ties and extravagant hats.

Below are four places to watch the horse race while showing off your best Derby style.

The PhilaDerby

Head to Pagano's Market and Bar for an outdoor Kentucky Derby party on Saturday, May 6. The "greatest two minutes in sports" will be broadcast onto the plaza's Jumbotron TV screen.

Besides the main attraction, there will be live music, outdoor games, drinks and a best-dressed contest.

General admission and VIP tickets are both available. Proceeds from The PhilaDerby will benefit For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation.

2017 Kentucky Derby Party

The Twisted Tail's annual Derby Party will kick off at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6.

Guests can spend the day sipping mint juleps and watching the lead-up to the first race in the Triple Crown, which will start at 6:34 p.m.

All are invited to dress in their Derby best for the occasion. Prizes will be given for best hat and best bow tie.

West Laurel Hill Derby Party

For the fifth year, West Laurel Hill Cemetery will host a Kentucky Derby party. This year's event will run from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6.

Guests are asked to dress in their Derby best for the outdoor affair. Judges will pick the best dressed from the crowd.

Even if you don't win, dressing up is worth it. There will be an Instashack photo booth and Denise Fike will be on-site to create keepsake fashion illustrations of guests' outfits.

To eat and drink, there will be traditional Derby fare like pecan pie and cheesy grits.

A cigar bar and horse-drawn carriage rides through the grounds will round out the day's activities.

Both VIP and general admission tickets are available, with proceeds going to Hope Springs Equestrian Therapy.

Derby VIPs get a complimentary glass of Champagne, an extra donation to Hope Springs and entry into a special raffle.
