After starting off their road trip pretty well, the Sixers went 0-for-Los Angeles over the weekend to finish 2-4 on their Western swing. And now, via the New York Post (and Sixers Reddit), Kendall Marshall’s father was apparently tweeting up a storm during Saturday’s loss to the Clippers.
Both sites have screenshots of Dennis Marshall’s (private) account criticizing the Sixers, but this is the most notable tweet:
“I always said there was racism in sports,” he tweeted. “White guys in basketball are getting every chance to succeed even when they aren’t doing s–t.”
Marshall, who played 17 minutes against the Clippers, saw his playing time decrease since the arrival of Ish Smith on Christmas Eve. In the previous three games, Marshall only logged a combined four minutes.
And then there is this tweet (via Crossing Broad), from screenwriter Michael Weber (a Philly fan based out of L.A.), regarding Chuck Okafor:
Okafor has been averaging only about 20 minutes per game since coming back from two missed games due to right knee soreness. It's clear that Brett Brown has been shying away from playing the rookie center and Nerlens Noel at the same time. Okafor did score 23 points on 10-14 shooting in Saturday's 130-99 loss to the Clippers.
If both things are in fact true, it doesn’t come as a total shock. Parents are always going to want the best for their kids, and sitting through a 3-33 start has to be extremely frustrating when all they did was win and win for years.
Still, if true, neither development would be a good look for a professional basketball franchise.
