According to spokeswoman Susan Kayne, any hoverboards found on campus will be confiscated beginning this week.
The ban comes at the recommendation of the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety, which suggested that all colleges prohibit the devices.
The hoverboard has proven to be a hazard.
A hoverboard caught fire last week at a home in Ocean County. Fire officials say the hoverboard caught fire while it was being charged at the home in Lacey Township.
The three largest U.S. airlines, American Airlines Group Inc., United Continental Holdings Inc. and Delta Air Lines Inc., each said on Dec. 10 that it is banning hoverboards in carry-on and checked baggage out of safety considerations.
