Manayunk Canel Tow Path M. Kennedy/Visit Philadelphia™

Offering serene views of the Schuylkill River and other sites, the 28-mile Manayunk Canal Towpath is easily accessible from downtown Philadelphia and the nearby Manayunk neighborhood. The Towpath serves as an important link for the Schuylkill River Trail and a popular spot for biking, hiking, running and other activities.

Care for Rare Campaign, a non-profit to build awareness and raise funds for rare children's disease research, will host a 5-mile race on Saturday, May 21, as a fundraiser for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Participants can choose to enter as individuals or as a team to race along the Manayunk Canal Towpath.

The race starts and ends at the Venice Island Performing Arts Center, located on Lock Street, near the towpath. Medals and other prizes will be given out at an awards ceremony around 9:45 a.m.

Early registration for the race is $30-$35, but after Thursday, April 21, the registration fees will increase.

Once across the finish line, 21-and-older participants will receive a drink ticket to use at Manayunk Brewing Company. For those with kids, there will be a "Kids’ Fun Zone" set up before the race with a DJ and activities.
