All across the United States today, Americans are testing the limits of their guts by packing hot dogs, slaws, burgers, booze into their mouths to celebrate our nation's independence.
Many will relearn, the hard way, that they are not cut out for competitive eating.
At Saturday's 33rd annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Brooklyn's Coney Island, a new champ was crowned on the men's side. The fearsome Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, who at his peak ingested 69 dogs in 10 minutes, fell to an able challenger in Matt Stonie after a sterling 8-year reign.
Stonie was able to log 62 hot dogs on Saturday to edge out Chestnut, who came up 2 dogs short of another title defense.
On the women's side, Miki Sudo won for a second year in a row after cramming in 38 hot dogs.
No matter how much you want to try this at home, just recall that in this case your competitive juices can be a disastrously literal consequence.
