The Democrat with local ties is expected to create a mission center at the University of Pennsylvania to continue his advocacy work on a variety of fronts, according to Politico.
Biden, a six-term U.S. senator representing Delaware, came to Penn earlier this year to tout the launch of the White House cancer moonshot initiative, part of which has since been renamed in honor of his late son, former Delaware Attorney General and Penn graduate Beau Biden.
Details about what level of involvement Biden may have in university affairs have not yet been revealed. His familiarity with Penn — his granddaughter also graduated from the Ivy League school this year — likely will give him a head start on the work he hopes to undertake in the coming years.
One area where Biden could provide leadership at Penn is in education efforts to prevent sexual violence and harassment, a concern that was starkly highlighted in September when a student group protested over a lewd email distributed to freshman women by an off-campus fraternity. Penn has since established a task force to address the issues revealed during the "rape culture" protest.
Biden has been actively involved in the White House's "It's On Us" campaign to prevent campus sexual assault.
The vice president's spokesperson offered no comment on Biden's specific plans at Penn, and it's not yet known when exactly he will assume his role.
