J.J. Redick said he was ‘overwhelmed’ by Sixers’ atmosphere in documentary

J.J. Redick teased the mini-documentary that he made with Uninterrupted on his new podcast, and the new Sixers shooting guard did have cameras follow him around for two months between the end of the Clippers season and when he made his free agency decision.

It’s an interesting watch, as we get to see all of the factors that went into Redick choosing the Sixers:

The Sixers obviously paid the elite three-point shooter $23 million (and kudos to Redick for openly discussing that figure, it’s annoying when athletes pretend like it’s a secret), but it also sounds like Philadelphia was the place he wanted to be.

“Going into those five days prior to free agency, 100 percent Philly is the team I wanted to play for,” Redick said. “It was past midnight on July 1st and when I walked in, there was like thirty 76ers employees. My first thought was, ‘They’re all here for free agency,’ but I guess they were all there for me.

“I was able to have a really good conversation with Brett Brown about some actions that we can run next year. It was just a really good conversation. I was sort of overwhelmed by the atmosphere and one of the things I told them in the meeting was I want to be around a good group and good people and that’s sort of what they were preaching to me.”

Redick didn’t get the long-term deal that he was looking for at the beginning of free agency, but the Sixers are going to pay him a lot of money next season while he stays relatively close to his family in Brooklyn.
