A jet skier in Manasquan Inlet was rescued Sunday by a Coast Guard helicopter crew after falling overboard near Point Pleasant Beach.
The rescue was initiated after the helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was flying over the Inlet for a training flight, according to NBC 10. Petty Officer 3rd Class Billy Arrison, a rescue swimmer, noticed an unattended jet ski in the water.
The helicopter hovered over the Inlet and spotted a man in distress near the jetty. The jet ski reportedly slammed into the rocks as the helicopter flew overhead. The jet skier, who has not been identified, was headed in the same direction.
The helicopter crew quickly readied a hoist cable to lower Arrison into the water. He was able to successfully bring the victim to safety at a nearby beach.
Arrison noted that the weather conditions put the man in particular danger of washing up onto the rocks.
The jet skier is expected to make a full recovery.
