Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino begins eight-month prison sentence for tax evasion

'Jersey Shore' star surrenders on Tuesday at the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino officially leaves his party days behind on Tuesday as the former "Jersey Shore" star begins an eight-month sentence in federal prison for tax evasion.

"The comeback is even greater than the setback," Sorrentino said via Instagram Live on Tuesday morning on his way to the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York.

Sorrentino and his brother Marc were arrested and charged in September 2014 with multiple tax offenses. In April 2017, both men were indicted on additional charges, including tax evasion, structuring and falsifying records.

In October, Sorrentino pled guilty to one count of tax evasion and was sentenced to eight months, with 30 to 60 days to report. That was later extended to Jan. 15. After serving eight months in prison, he will also have to serve two years of supervised release.

Sorrentino married longtime girlfriend Lauren Pesce in November before he was due to start his sentence.

Based on his social media accounts, it looks like Sorrentino is getting some publicity from the whole situation (heh). He's already selling "Free Sitch" T-shirts and posted the prison address on his public Facebook account for fans, friends, and family to mail him letters of support.
