The iconic stretch of one Jersey Shore town will reportedly undergo a major overhaul if the mayor's proposal is approved.
According to a report published Saturday by the Press of Atlantic City, Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano is pushing for a $20 million investment to repair the city's Boardwalk by replacing "16 blocks that are in deplorable condition."
The nearly two-mile boardwalk extends across 38 blocks and features rides, restaurants, shops and other attractions.

The boards along that part were installed in 1926. The surface planking is replaced annually, but Troiano indicated that the problem lies in the substructure.
The mayor wants the Boardwalk to be replaced with Brazilian hardwood, which would help limit the number of potential lawsuits due to tripping hazards.
The proposal would need to be approved by the city's Board of Commissioners.
