Jersey Shore beach closes due to high bacteria levels

High bacteria levels in the ocean water forced officials to close one of Sandy Hook's beaches on the Jersey Shore Tuesday, NJ.com reports.

The water off Beach D tested for high levels of bacteria, leading staff to close the beach and the adjacent parking lot.

John Warren, a spokesman for Sandy Hook, told NJ.com that beachgoers are encouraged to visit the other beaches: C, E, Gunnison and North.

The cause of the high levels was not known.
