He's already been on Broadway, and now Jake Gyllenhaal will take his first shot at musical theater.
Gyllenhaal will play Seymour, the nerdy florist who falls in love with his co-worker in a special performance of "Little Shop of Horrors" at the New York City Center in Manhattan. The demand for tickets has already been so great that the theater has added a matinee and an evening performance on July 2 in addition to the July 1 show.
"Saturday Night Live" cast member Taran Killam will join Gyllenhaal in the performance as the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, according to Time.
In the 1986 film based off the off-Broadway musical, Gyllenhaal's part was played by Rick Moranis.
Killam's role was played by Steve Martin.
Fun fact about Killam: While most know him for his impressions on SNL, he actually showed off his vocal chops when he starred as a pop singer in the 2004 Disney Channel Original Movie "Stuck in the Suburbs."
Gyllenhaal isn't known for his musical abilities, but he belted it out (sort of) during his monologue while hosting SNL in 2006. The hosting gig came after his role in "Brokeback Mountain," and he crossdressed while singing a tune from the movie "Dreamgirls."
Gyllenhaal previously appeared on Broadway in a 2015 adaptation of "Constellations," while Killam will be making his professional stage debut. The shows are part of the "Encores! Off Center" series, which will feature two additional off-Broadway musicals at the New York City Center this summer.
