IBEW Local 98 hosted a “Women in Construction Camp” at its union hall on Spring Garden Street in an effort to recruit more women into the unionized construction industry workforce. The event was led by IBEW Local 98’s Apprentice Training Director Michael Neill in partnership with the Training and Workforce division of the General Building & Contractors Association.
More than 30 high school-aged young women attended the event to learn the basics of becoming a union electrician from instructors of IBEW Local 98’s Apprentice Training Program. The electrical field is one of the most popular Building Trades professions for women, offering family-sustaining wages and benefits.
