The first week of 2017 wrapped up with a winter storm that covered the Philadelphia area with snow this weekend.
Winter Storm Helena dropped heavy snow throughout the Northeast portion of the United States. Parts of New England were hit hardest, including East Bridgewater in Massachusetts where 15 inches of snow fell.
Philly residents needed to break out the shovels to clear about three inches of the white stuff off the ground, according to the figures released Sunday at 4:55 a.m. by the National Weather Service. South Philly was declared the unofficial "winner" of this storm in the city, reporting 3.8 inches of snowfall.
That paled in comparison to the snowfall across the Delaware River in New Jersey where one town reached double digits. Ten inches of snow was recorded in Port Norris, Cumberland County.
