The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council attempted to end a heated debate over the classification of the food it's dedicated to, but may have only ignited more controversy.
Recognizing how the question as to whether a hot dog is a sandwich -- or not -- has gained attention on national television, the council published a press release to their website saying that the answer is: No.
"...a hot dog is an exclamation of joy, a food, a verb describing one ‘showing off’ and even an emoji. It is truly a category unto its own," the release stated.
Well, that answer didn't go over so well for one prominent Philadelphia tweeter.
Since the council's release, Spike Eskin, program director at 94 WIP and co-host of the Josh Innes Show, lambasted the decision, mocking the comparison of a hot dog to the dali lama.
The question has long been a point of contention in Philly Twitter.
For example, new Philadelphia 76ers guard Nik Stauskas was grilled (pun intended) about it when he was traded to the team this summer. He answered no, but many Philly fans disagreed.
