Wouldn't it be nice to escape from the cold? Maybe go somewhere with sand, exotic plants and lounge chairs?
You actually don't need to go far to find that. This February, think of the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center as a getaway destination.
A new series created by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Constellation Culinary Group provides a dose of summer in the middle of winter.
From Saturday, Feb. 2, through Sunday, Feb. 10, there will be free events in the 20,000-square-foot greenhouse, which will be split into "rooms."
• The Jungle – At different times, there will be a traveling zoo, Kids Rock DJ, live music, face painting, balloon artists and movie nights.
• The Beach – Head to the oversized sandbox for an indoor beach escape.
• The Lawn – Lounge on the green grass and play lawn games.
• The Lounge – Relax in this Moroccan-themed area filled with unique furniture.
• The Midway – Enjoy local food truck vendors and a cash bar with craft beers, wine and cocktails.
During the day, Monday through Friday, visitors can pack a picnic to enjoy on the grass. On the weekend and at night, visitors can purchase food and drink from vendors.
Below is the scheduled programming. While events are free to attend, a ticket is necessary since space is limited.
