Last month, the big news at 94.1 WIP was the sudden departure of longtime talk radio host Tony Bruno from the afternoon show and partner Josh Innes after only a few months together. Now, it seems the station has tabbed two replacements for Bruno who are already on the payroll. From Rob Tornoe of Philly.com:
After weeks of tryouts and rotating guests, Sportsradio 94.1 WIP has found not one, but two replacements for Tony Bruno. According to sources, the station will announce Thursday afternoon that current program director Spike Eskin and host Hollis Thomas will join Josh Innes in the afternoon slot vacated by Bruno, who retired suddenly last month from radio.
The new show, which will be called “The Josh Innes Show,” will officially launch next Monday.
Crossing Broad, a site that specializes in the so-called “Radio Wars,” is also reporting that Eskin and Thomas will be joining Innes. According to Kyle Scott, “The Josh Innes Show” will now likely air from 2-6 p.m., which means “The Mike and Ike Show” would run an extra hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the afternoon slot.
Eskin, who is the son of the host who manned the drive-time slot at WIP for a couple of decades, is also the program director at the station. Thomas, a former staple at defensive tackle for the Eagles during Andy Reid’s glory years, has hosted a weekend show on the station with Rob Charry while also popping up in other spots as a fill-in.
They’ll both join Innes, who has made a name for himself in Philly during the year and a half he has been at the station. There were reports that the 29-year-old host and the older Bruno didn’t get along very well, but now that is in the past. Innes has two new partners to work with.
