The holiday season is upon us. That means the public will once again be seeing the members of IBEW Local 98 throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, lighting up the night and providing for the less fortunate in our community.

The fun kicked off November 26th when Local 98 members delivered 300 frozen turkeys to WMGK’s annual Turkey Drop, a charity event started more than 20 years ago by recently retired WMGK morning host John DeBella. Working with City Team Philadelphia, the turkeys were delivered to soup kitchens and small non-profits throughout our region. Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the oldest in the nation, had that special Local 98 touch again this year. The Philadelphia Museum of Art’s brightly colored steps that provide the stunning backdrop to the television coverage of the parade were installed gratis by Local 98.

One of IBEW Local 98’s favorite charities is Rock Ministries in the heart of drug-ravaged Kensington. Our dear friend, Pastor Buddy Osborn, works to give the endangered youth of that dangerous and impoverished neighborhood a path to a good life. Local 98 delivered complete turkey dinners, clothing, bedding and other essentials to Rock Ministries over Thanksgiving and Christmas. At our 98 North campus in Collegeville, we gave out turkeys to the needy in the nearby Norristown community. We also delivered frozen turkeys to Cornerstone Church so their parishioners in-need could enjoy a nice holiday meal.

Given our close ties to the U.S. Marines and all of our military, Local 98 is participating in the Marines’ annual “Toys For Tots” drive in which we’ll be collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in-need throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.

Our members are the best-trained, most experienced electricians and technicians in the industry. That’s why we were proud to once again be asked to light up Rittenhouse Square, Manayunk Park, and Franklin Square for the holidays.

IBEW Local 98 loves this special time of year and the communities we serve. Here’s wising everyone a happy and safe holiday season!
