Do you like pizza? How about free pizza? I know, right? I do, too.
Well, do I have some news for you: You can get free pizza in Center City on Thursday. All you have to do is be one of the first 215 people in line when &pizza opens its doors for business.
Now, I’d never heard of &pizza until a press release about this week’s opening made its way to my inbox Monday afternoon.
“&pizza is coming to the city of brotherly love,” it read, noting that it’s the chain’s 17th location is the first one outside of the Beltway area. “The D.C.-founded chain of community-focused pizza shops known for its devoted ampersand-tattooed employees, handmade pies, and craft sodas is bringing its signature brand to Philly on October 13."
Devoted ampersand-tattooed employees? Sounds kinda tattooed-tribe culty, but whatever; this is about free pizza.
“On opening day, free pies will be given to the first 215 guests in line (a nod to the 215 area code)" — thanks for clearing that up, guys — the press release continued. "The first five guests in line who request a tattoo of the brand’s signature ampersand, will receive it gratis, in addition to free pizza for a year. The brand makes the same offer to its employees — the &pizza Tribe — and to date, more than 60 Tribe members have signed their allegiance on skin.”
Cool, cool. Also, the new pizzeria will take a page from Rosa’s Pizza’s book and donate to local charities based on pizza sales on Friday and Saturday.
Anyway, here’s what you need to know:
&pizza is located at 1430 Walnut St. (or, per the announcement, “the SE corner of 15th and Walnut St.") Doors open at 11 a.m. Thursday, but having seen what happened when Chick-fil-A offered free grub, I’d get there early. Because free pizza.
