Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is set to open one of its ReStore locations at 23rd and Washington streets in Point Breeze on Friday.
The new store will sell new and used furniture, home goods, appliances, building supplies, and other household items, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. The building's stock will come from local donations and contributions from larger companies including IKEA, Sharper Image, and AKA Rittenhouse Square.
The nonprofit, which makes homeownership possible for those in need through partnership housing construction, has already built five new homes in the neighborhood, where redevelopment remains a thorny issue.
According to Frank Monaghan, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, the restore in Point Breeze will become a major source of funding for additional home construction and repairs in Philadelphia.
Habitat's restores have 850 locations across teh United States and Monaghan has set a goal to have four in Philadelphia in the next 10 years.
