The pictures garnered so much attention that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who had previously called Hardy "a leader," issued a statement, saying that while the team didn't have access to them before signing Hardy and don't condone domestic violence, they "entered into the agreement with Greg fully understanding that there would be scrutiny and criticism."
"We have given Greg a second chance," the statement read.
On Saturday, Hardy broke his silence about the Deadspin piece. In two tweets, he expressed "regret" but said he was "grateful" to still play in the NFL:
The charges against Hardy were expunged Thursday. Originally convicted in July, he had the charges dismissed when Holder failed to show up in court.
Following the dismissal, an NFL arbitrator reduced a 10-game suspension for this season down to four.
