A Delaware County resident died in a house fire Sunday evening in Boothwyn, NBC10 reports.
According to NBC10, the woman has not yet been identified, except to say that she was a wife and a grandmother. A neighbor told NBC10 she'd been playing with her grandchild outside the home less than an hour before the blaze.
The woman was alone at the time of the fire and was found by firefighters at the top of the second-floor staircase, officials told NBC10. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to NBC10, the woman's husband was nearby when he heard about the fire and rushed home to try to save his wife.
Neighbors told NBC10 he was “frantically screaming her name as he tried to get inside and save her."
He sustained burns and was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for treatment.
The fire began around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and about 75 to 100 firefighters reported to the scene, according to NBC10.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
