Gov. Wolf orders flags at half-staff in memory of Paris victims

Governor Tom Wolf has ordered all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at government facilities throughout the state lowered to half-staff, effective immediately, as a gesture of respect for the victims of Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris.

Gunmen and suicide bombers struck at restaurants, bars, a soccer stadium and a music hall, killing 129 people and wounding more than 350 people in the French capital.

“On behalf of all Pennsylvanians, Frances and I extend our deepest condolences to the French people and all those affected by these horrific acts of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with victims of this heartbreaking tragedy and their families,” Wolf said in a statement.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Thursday.

President Barack Obama issued a proclamation on Monday ordering the American flag flown at half-staff at the White House and all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

"The American people stand with the people of France. Friday's terror attacks were not just an attack on Paris; they were an attack on all humanity and the universal values we share, including the bonds of liberté, égalité, and fraternité," Obama said. "These values will endure far beyond any terrorists or their hateful vision. The United States and our allies do not give in to fear, nor will we be divided, nor will anyone change our way of life. We will do whatever it takes, working with nations and peoples around the world, to bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice, and to go after terrorists who threaten our people.

The State Capitol in Harrisburg is illuminated in blue, white and red to honor the victims.
