When Rey and Finn get to fly the iconic Millennium Falcon in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens, their joy is palpable.
And, if you're a fan of the films or a collector of Star Wars memorabilia, you too could experience a bit of a thrill with your own six-foot by four-foot limited edition Millennium Falcon, thanks to a recent Craigslist posting.
According to the seller, John Adams, 50, of Eagleville, Montgomery County, the enormous space ship – weighing in at about 30 lbs. – is one of 700 and just 500 of those were made available to the public through a Toys "R" Us stores nationwide promotion back in 1998.
"My understanding is that they made 700 of them, but about 200 of them got messed up," he said.
Adams said that his Millennium Falcon is an "Extraordinaire" model, made by Hasbro. He believes it's the largest model of the ship ever commercially produced. Adams won the ship – numbered 71 out of 700 – in a raffle at a King of Prussia Toys "R" Us store nearly 20 years ago.
"It was a big deal back in '98," he said.
For a while, Adams said, the model hung in his sons' room. Later, he moved it into storage in his basement. He's asking $1,400 for the piece, a price that should appeal to collectors because Adams says he has seen them sell for more than $3,000 online,
That, however, seems to be a price for one of the ships in an original box.
"I don't have any of that (original packaging). To me, it wasn't a big deal," Adams said. "But it's pretty cool. And, I think, if you're a Star Wars fan, it's really cool."
