Known as Mr. Hockey, Hall of Famer's career spanned four decades

Hall of Fame hockey player Gordie Howe died Friday morning, according to multiple reports. He was 88 years old.

Howe's professional hockey career in the NHL and WHA spanned four decades and included 25 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.

Sources close to the family told Sportsnet.ca that Howe was at the Ohio home of his son, Murray, when he passed, shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.

Two of Howe's sons played in the NHL, including Mark Howe, who played for the Philadelphia Flyers from 1982-1992 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
