Hall of Fame hockey player Gordie Howe died Friday morning, according to multiple reports. He was 88 years old.
Howe's professional hockey career in the NHL and WHA spanned four decades and included 25 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.
Sources close to the family told Sportsnet.ca that Howe was at the Ohio home of his son, Murray, when he passed, shortly before 8 a.m. Friday.
Two of Howe's sons played in the NHL, including Mark Howe, who played for the Philadelphia Flyers from 1982-1992 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
Below is some reaction – mostly local – on Twitter to Gordie Howe's death:
The legend is gone. Peace to Gordie Howe. Love to my friend Mark Howe and his entire family. One of the all time greats, we will remember...

RIP Mr. Hockey. Gordie is the greatest hockey player ever. I was fortunate to have seen him in person at Mark's jersey retirement in Philly
