A Gloucester County man was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday and charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son, in addition to several other charges of alleged mistreatment of the boy.
According to The Associated Press, 24-year-old Giovanni Crucitti, of Washington Township, has been jailed since last December in connection to counts of aggravated assault, child endangerment and possession of child pornography after police found an explicit photo on his cellphone.
The boy was hospitalized last December due to internal bleeding and kidney failure, according to the Gloucester County prosecutor's office. His mother, 21-year-old Alyssa Barilaro of Washington Township, has also been charged with child endangerment after prosecutors say she did not seek immediate medical care for her son's injuries.
Over the past year, the boy has recovered from his injuries and is now living with relatives.
It was not clear whether either the defendant is being represented by an attorney, who could comment on the charges.
