Lottery tickets are considered a quick and easy gift idea, but one winner took that a step further by dropping a winning one that was already scratched off into a bucket for charity.
Pennsylvania Lottery officials announced Tuesday that a winning ticket was deposited last week into a Salvation Army red kettle outside a Walmart in Erie.
The ticket, which was donated anonymously, was a Fantastic 10s instant game worth $1,000.
Major Leslie Walter, an officer of the Salvation Army, noted that donations of winning lottery tickets are not unusual. However, it is rare to find a ticket worth this much in a bucket.
“We are very grateful for this generous donation, which will help us to serve people and families in need,” Walter said.
