A small plane carrying four people crashed on a busy Atlanta-area highway after taking off from a nearby airport on Friday, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman said.
Television footage of the smoldering wreckage showed little of the plane was left intact and local media reported all four people on board were killed.
The Piper PA-32 crashed on Interstate 285 after departing from the DeKalb–Peachtree Airport, just northeast of Atlanta, said FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.
Traffic was shut down in both directions on the highway, which was expected to remain closed for hours, according to local media.
