A former cook for a pizzeria in University City was sentenced to spend nine years in prison on Friday morning after his arrest in January 2015 on charges of sharing child pornography.
According to the United States Attorney's office, Jose Dany Zacarias-Jaramillo, 29, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to spent 108 months in prison after he pleaded guilty in April to two counts of distribution of child pornography, two counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Court Judge Juan R. Sanchez ordered that Zaharias-Jaramillo pay $7,000 in restitution, a $500 special assessment fee, and spend 10 years on probation following his release.
As reported in a Philadelphia Magazine posting from the time of Zaharias-Jaramillo's arrest, the 29-year-old was working as a cook at Ed's Buffalo Wings and Pizza at 3513 Lancaster Ave. between November 2013 and May 2014, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that an IP address at that restaurant was transmitting explicit images of children.
After an investigation, agents with Homeland Security determined that the images were being sent by email addresses registered to Zacarias-Jaramillo, who viewed and shared the child pornography on his cell phone while he was working at the restaurant.
An evaluation of the email accounts and searches of Zacarias-Jaramillo's home revealed that he possessed more than 100,000 images and several videos of child pornography, according to the United State's Attorney's Office.
