Flyers' All-Star Wayne Simmonds reveals engagement

The Flyers may be working their way out of a rough patch and hanging tight on the fringe of the playoffs, but 28-year-old right winger Wayne Simmonds is having a career year.

Not only did the land his first slot in an NHL All-Star game, he's also taking a big step in his personal life. Simmonds revealed Tuesday on Instagram that he's getting married to his girlfriend, Crystal Corey.

This has been a fun year to watch Simmonds. In his sixth season as a Flyer, he has unquestionably cemented himself as the kind of scrappy, skilled, hardworking athlete meant for Philadelphia hockey.

Case in point, from November, when he decked the Red Wings' Jonathan Ericsson with a single punch.

Then, in a scene you don't often see on the rink, Simmonds lost his shirt in another fight against the Ducks.

That's to say nothing of Simmonds' 18 goals and 16 assists through 46 games, giving him a real chance to set a career high in goals over last year's 32.

This isn't the Flyers' first engagement of the season, either. Center and team captain Claude Giroux also popped the question while at home in Ottawa in December.

Congratulations to Simmonds and Corey. The annual Flyers Wives Carnival will be happy to have two new participants on board.
