MELBOURNE, Fla. - Two people are dead and one is injured after gunfire erupted early on Saturday at a mall in Melbourne, Florida, police said.
The suspected gunman, 57-year-old Jose Garcia-Rodriguez of Palm Bay, has been confirmed dead by police after fatally shooting himself and an unidentified male victim in the mall's food court. The suspect's wife, Idanerys Garcia-Rodriguez, 33, appears to have been the target and was in good condition at a hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Investigators believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting, which occurred just as stores prepared to open at the Melbourne Square mall on Florida's east coast.
Melbourne police commissioner Vince Pryce said that all three people involved in the shooting were found in the same part of the mall.
Television station WESH reported the shooting happened in the shopping center's food court after 9 a.m., citing a witness who said two people were injured before the gunman shot himself. Approximately 100 people were inside the mall at the time.
The mall was evacuated and closed for the remainder of the day, but is expected to reopen tomorrow.
