At parts of Shore, four inches of rain in two hours, then flooding

A flood warning issued by the National Weather Service for parts of the Jersey Shore has expired after nearly four inches of rain fell in two hours on Wednesday.

Those thunderstorms have moved off the coast and only showers remain tonight after significant flooding was reported in the southern end of Long Beach Island, Brigantine, Atlantic City and Margate, the weather service said.

The flood warning was in effect till 4:45 p.m.

Early Wednesday morning, PECO reported more than 3,000 power outages as a result of the storms. By 9:30 a.m., the number was reduced to about 90 active outages, according to PECO's outage map.

An outage map for PSE&G showed less than 15 active outages around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Philadelphia International Airport was also reporting problems due to the storms.

A lightning strike is being considered as the possible cause of a house fire in Chester County Wednesday morning.

Rescue crews were also called out to Pottstown to perform several water rescues, NBC10 reports.

Below is the forecast for the remainder of the work week:

Wednesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. North wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 81. North wind 6 to 8 mph. 

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. Calm wind. 

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. 

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.
