Police say a fire on the property of a Montgomery County school appears to have been set on purpose.

Officers responded to a report of smoke near the Center School in Abington at around 4:50 a.m. on Monday. There, they found an old storage unit engulfed in flames.

The storage unit was completely destroyed, as was about $5,000 worth of furniture inside, police said.

The unit was located about 80 feet away from the actual school. Officers checked the school and found that someone had thrown a brick through a window, causing $500 in damage.

Police said early indications are that the fire was intentionally set, and they are investigating the case as arson and criminal mischief.

The Center School is a private school for grades 1-8 that primarily serves children with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia.
