On Father's Day, June 17, there will be a 5K race on MLK Drive, to raise money for the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center Prostate Cancer Program.

For the past 15 years, the annual Gary Papa Run benefiting prostate cancer was held on the holiday, but when the Foundation for Breast & Prostate Health recently closed, the race ended.

The president of special event company SPW Productions, Sharon Phillips Waxman, stepped in to create a new Father's Day run, however.

"I lost my brother Stephen to prostate cancer this past January. In his honor, and to continue the fight against prostate cancer, I have partnered with Run the Day to create the Philadelphia Father's Day 5K Run/Walk. There was going to be no Father’s Day run this year for prostate cancer. I could not let that happen, especially this year,” she stated.

Individual registration for the race is $30 ($15 for kids ages 10 and under).

The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., with check-in opening at 7 a.m.
