Every holiday season, the six historic homes of Fairmount deck their halls for the festive season. This year, there are various events for guests to attend.
On Thursdays through Sundays from Dec. 3 to Dec. 20, all are welcome to view each house’s festive decorations inspired by the whimsical Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Local interior designers and garden clubs created each look. Houses will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and entrance to each house is $5 (under 12 free).
Holly Trolly Day offers a few extra holiday activities on Saturday, Dec.5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each house will still be $5 to view, but transportation on the trolly to see them will be free. Other special events including carolers, glass blowing, ice-carving, musical performances, seasonal refreshments, and more. Shofuso and Ormiston will also be additional stops on Holly Trolley Day 2015.
For a more in-depth tour of the decorated Laurel Hill Mansion, Woodford Mansion, and Historic Strawberry Mansion, there is a holiday candlelight tour on Thursday, Dec. 3. From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. guests can tour the mansions with guides who will share the interesting history of Fairmont Park and the residents of the homes. Assorted hors d'oeuvres and desserts will be provided at the end. Tickets are $45 per person and cover transportation, admission to each house, and refreshments.
Another option for a unique tour is on Wednesday, Dec. 16 and Friday, Dec. 18 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Join characters from "A Christmas Carol" as they guide visitors through Mount Pleasant, Cedar Grove and Lemon Hill. Tours run about 90 min and guests should make reservations. Tickets are $44 per person or $35 for Philadelphia Museum of Art Members and include transportation and admission to the sites.
