For the fifth year in a row, Drexel University will host Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day Saturday, Feb. 7. A free day of fun for all ages, the huge event celebrates materials science, or "the science of stuff." The event aims to get kids interested in engineering and the sciences through hands-on demonstrations, games, music and talks.

This year, the demos focus on five key areas that impact us every day: earth, energy, communication, health and sports. Planned demos include using liquid nitrogen to make instant ice cream, running on liquid and bending glass.

Drexel students and professors will participate in the event, as will representatives from the University of Pennsylvania, the Chemical Heritage Foundation and the Franklin Institute.

Exciting hands-on activities like those found at Philly Materials Day could inspire attendees to pursue careers in STEM down the road. This is a can't-miss event for budding scientists.
