All-female flamenco company Pasion y Arte is bringing a new dance series to the area this fall. Tablao Philly will recreate the experience of 18th and 19th century Spanish tablaos. Much like beat poetry cafes or jazz clubs, tablaos would attract diverse audiences for drinking and dancing.
Thus Pasion y Arte will host Tablao Philly quarterly, beginning in October, thanks to PNC Arts Alive. Each tablao will include unique flamenco performances with refreshments like wine and tapas, all within the black box theater of the Asian Arts Initiative. The first performance will take place Oct. 29-31 and feature Pasión y Arte, flamenco ensemble De Luna a Lunares and special guest La Meira, a world-renown flamenco dancer.
Each show is 90 minutes with two 10-minute intermissions. Follow up installments of Tablao Philly will take place Jan. 28-30, April 28-30 and June 9-11.
