Actress Emma Stone, best known for roles in "The Help," "Birdman" and "Easy A," is attached to a new film with a local tie. Former South Jersey resident Matthew Quick's latest novel, "Love May Fail," was quickly optioned by Columbia Pictures after its June release, and now Stone is set to play the lead role, according to Deadline. The film will move to TriStar with studio exec Hannah Minghella.
"Love May Fail" tells the story of Portia Kane, a woman who finds herself back in her South Jersey hometown after a messy divorce from a cheating husband. Upon her return, she focuses her energy on reviving the reputation of her favorite high-school English teacher after an unfortunate classroom incident.
A director is not yet attached to the film, and no timeframe is set for its release, but the script has been written by Mike White ("School of Rock," "Orange County"). Quick's previous big Hollywood adaptation saw Jennifer Lawrence and hometown favorite Bradley Cooper take on the leading roles of "Silver Linings Playbook."
