Elderly woman hit by stray bullet while sitting on North Philly porch

An elderly woman was struck by a stray bullet while sitting on the front porch of a home in North Philadelphia Tuesday night, CBSPhilly reports.

The incident happened at about 10:39 p.m. on the 2800 block of N. 25th St.

The 79-year-old woman was struck once in the leg, police said. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

“Based on the crime scene, we know that at least two shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon," Chief Inspector Scott Small told CBSPhilly. “We found two shell casings on the street, about 50 feet north from where the woman was sitting when she was shot.”

The incident remains under investigation.
